NEPSE Rises Slightly, but Trading Volume Declines

Kathmandu, Aug 18: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index saw a slight uptick on the second trading day of the week, closing higher after a drop on Sunday.

On Monday, the NEPSE index rose by 9.16 points, settling at 2,770.39 points. Similarly, the Sensitive Index gained 1.66 points, the Float Index climbed 0.66 points, and the Sensitive Float Index added 0.64 points.

Despite the rise in the indices, the overall trading volume declined. Shares worth Rs. 6.18 billion were traded across 67,959 transactions, involving 320 companies and totaling 15.23 million units of shares. This is a drop from Sunday’s total turnover of Rs. 7.73 billion.

Among the top gainers of the day, Union Hydropower led with a 6.10% increase in its stock price. Upper Sangye Hydropower and Upper Lohore Khola Hydropower followed, gaining around 6% and 5.5%, respectively. Meanwhile, Sampada Laghubitta was the biggest loser, with its stock declining by 4.81%.

In terms of trading volume, Nepal Reinsurance Company topped the list, with transactions worth Rs. 217.5 million. Butwal Power Company followed with Rs. 210 million, and NRN Infrastructure recorded trades exceeding Rs. 180 million.

Out of the 13 sub-indices, 11 closed higher while 2 declined. The Trade sub-index posted the highest gain at 1.29%, while gains in other sub-indices remained below 1%. The Mutual Fund and Others sub-indices saw marginal declines.
