The licenses of registered but non-operational schools will be revoked

Kathmandu – The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has initiated preparations to revoke the licenses of institutional schools registered under its jurisdiction that are currently not in operation.

According to KMC, its Education Department has conducted field inspections of such schools and is preparing to move forward with the cancellation process. Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol stated that alternative schools like Mahila Jyoti, Jayna, and James Namuna have been granted permission for relocation.

According to her, 25 schools have been granted permission to change their names. Matters such as the addition of classes and subjects in community and institutional schools, name and location changes, ownership transfers, license revocations of non-operational schools, and relocation of alternative schools are currently under discussion in the Education Committee of KMC.

Rani Devi Secondary School in Ranibari has been permitted to run up to class 10 from the academic session 2082 BS (2025-2026 AD). Similarly, Pashupati Mitra, Geetamata, Janakalyan, Janapath, and Nepal Adarsha Secondary Schools have been permitted to add Civil and Computer Engineering subjects in the technical stream of Grade 12.

KMC is also preparing to grant permission to 12 schools for adding new classes and subjects. Likewise, 21 schools that submitted documentation for name changes have been approved. The Education and Health Committee has been tasked with preparing the necessary guidelines for the transfer of institutional schools and presenting them at the next Education Committee meeting.

To assess the effectiveness, relevance, and potential revisions of the education sector’s budget for fiscal year 2082/83 and the “Book-Free Friday” program, KMC plans to submit a report within 15 days through the Education and Health Committee.

To improve community schools, a task force has been formed under the coordination of Dr. Surya Raj Kafle. This task force will submit a report with recommendations on school operation standards, social and resource mapping, physical infrastructure, educational quality, and long-term educational planning.

KMC also stated that its Education Department will study and act on the registration of early childhood development records and school bylaws.
